One of the Nigerian jazz influenced players who have been creating a modern Jazz sound based around Afrobeat and Highlife both west african fusion forms. Ogundipe grew up listening to a wide variety of music. He spent most of his pocket money from holiday jobs treating himself to latin modal and bebop jazz records(favourite arranger is Gill evans) as well as funk and country music. While in University studying for his law degree in nigeria he started to listen more to the traditional sounds and rhythms of Nigeria .
He is founder and leader of the afrojazz band Ayetoro which is based around a pool of players coming from all over africa and the black diaspora. the band has featured cameroonian bass players, trumpet players from belize and kit drummers from ghana.To date Ayetoro under ogundipe's leadership has released three albums with the latest being the Afrobeat chronicles Vol 1. As a composer Ogundipe's influences are Wayne Shorter, Monk and Abdullah Ibrahim. As a bandleader and musician models are Miles Davis and joe zawinul.
The band ayetoro has played in nigeria and also has a prescence in the uk modern jazz scene. Two of ogundipe's tunes are on their way to becoming classics in afro jazz .Yoruba boyz club featured on the universal compilation Son Du Golfe du Guinee and the funky revenge of the flying monkeys an underground club hit in london and also to be found on the Nu afrobeat cd by shanachie stateside.
